Profile
Rose Ffion is a champion select hornby premium Irish Draught purebred mare we imported from England. This Registered Irish Draught mare stands a full 16.1hh with 9 3/4 inch of bone. We were extremely fortunate to find Ffion as she hadn't been advertised but I heard through the grape vine that this lovely older mare was available. I took a gamble a week before Christmas and basically bought her sight unseen based on being a proven mare and her fabulous show career and one single picture of her in her youth. The gamble paid off thanks to a fellow breeder in England who gave me the lead, Ffion has since thrown two beautiful colts, one is being run on as a stallion prospect and the other I couldn't resist and had to keep him for my self. We now cross our fingers that Ffion will produce just one last foal for us this time by Touch Of The Blues before we retire the dear old girl.
She has been extremely successful with her show career in the UK from a very young age as a foal. Ffion was 1st and a champion at the Irish Draught Newport show as a foal. As a 2 year old she was 2nd and reserve champion at the Newport show and 4th at the Irish Draught National show. As a young mare she won at the Royal, the Great Yorkshire show and was featured in Britain's top equestrian magazine, Horse and Hound. In 1995 she won the breeding championships at the Irish Draught National show England in a very strong class and took the reserve champion for another class. That very same show, her colt foal by Gortlee Ruler, won his class, which was a great achievement all in one day.
Ffion is a super moving mare with excellent conformation, good bone and is a proven brood mare.
Offspring
Ffion had 5 foals in England before leaving for America, they were by Mountain Prince, Gortlee Ruler and Hillviewfarm Milligan. We managed to track down two of her Gortlee Ruler colts, now geldings and hear that they have both done well competing and in the hunt field also they are as close to bomb proof as you will ever find.
Since coming to America Ffion has had two more colts Manu Forti's Rakish Lad by Hillviewfarm Milligan who is being run on as a stallion prospect and Manu Forti's Clover Connection by Pride Of Gloster who we decided to keep as a future riding horse. At the grand old age of 21 Ffion is in foal to Touch Of the Blues, this will be her first and last foal by Touch Of the Blues before we retire the dear old girl. All in all Ffion is a super mare who produces quality foals with good minds, conformation and fantastic movement.
Lineage
Her bloodlines are quite impressive. She is by Finbar (Pride Of Shaunlara) out of Cherie Rose (Colman). Colman is one of the best producing movers of all time. His stock always have extremely good movement. Pride of Shaunlara needs no introduction to the Irish Draught enthusiast. He really has had a huge impact on the modern Irish Draught.
Her dam, Cherie Rose, has produced many champion Heavy weight hunters in the UK. In 1986, one of her hunter colts sold for a top price to Vin Toulson (top show hunter rider) and later went on to be a winner at the Royal show with Vin Toulson. Ffion is really a super mare, and we feel so honored to own her.
